How do we book SMT Music for my special event?
Complete the "Let's Get Started!" contact form. Please provide as many details as possible. Mr. Taylor typically responds within 24 hours.  Once all the important details have been fine-tuned and you have made the decision to book SMT Music, Mr. Taylor will send you a pdf contract.

What is your coverage area, where will you play?

SMT Music typically services a 100 mile radius of the Louisville KY area which includes the Tri-State area. Please contact us for other locations.

What do you require at the event?

• Three armless chairs for the trio, four armless chairs for the quartet

• If event is a Wedding, coordinator needs to meet with Musicians when they arrive (see Wedding Checklist)

• Playing area should be dry and level.

• Area should be free of hazards that could negatively affect the performance.

• Bookings of more than two hours may require meals for the musicians​

• Please provide cold water for the musicians during hot weather.

 

Are setup and travel included in the contracted time?

Your contract will be designed with a time period that will cover your event.
However, sometimes there are delays or you might like to extend the playing period. For weddings some brides decide to have “row by row” dismissal which can extend the playing time significantly. Best to let us know that in advance.
 

Can you play outdoors?

Weather permitting, we can play outdoors. In order for the musicians to perform at the highest professional level the playing area should be dry and level. Our instruments are valuable and can suffer damage if exposed to extremes of cold or heat. Direct sun on a string instrument can very easily harm the varnish. Please arrange to have us play in a shaded area or provide cover if shade is not available. Preferred temperatures are between 60 to 85 degrees. Your event planner may work with rental companies that provide canopies or heaters in extreme weather. 
Precipitation is also very harmful to our instruments.  They cannot be exposed to rain, snow, sleet, mist, etc. If we feel the conditions are dangerous we will move to a safer area. My responsibility is to provide outstanding service to my clients and insure that my musicians have a safe environment to deliver the best performance possible.

Will you play with other musicians?

If you will be supplying another musician, there may be an extra charge to compensate for music arrangements as well as rehearsal and collaboration time. We will schedule a rehearsal with the other musician(s) on the day of the event, so we need early access to the venue. If you would like us to rehearse on a separate day, hourly rates and travel may apply.

 

Will you help us choose music for our event?

We will work with you to make sure the music is perfect for your event. Our repertoire is extensive, but we are always open to requests. We just ask that you give our Sound Samples a listen, and also review Pop and Contemporary and Other Music under the Wedding tab. If you have specific music in mind we will try to find the sheet music arrangements. Please be aware that not all songs are available for string quartet. Contact Mr. Taylor about creating a custom arrangement. You can also help by doing a google search for "song title sheet music for string quartet". Sheet Music Plus is also a good online source for music arrangements. Put the title in the search bar and include string quartet.

Will you play music that is not in your repertoire list?

We are happy to learn and play music that is not on our repertoire list. We just need the sheet music arrangement for string quartet. Read the preceding paragraph. We pass on the cost of requested music to the client. It is usually nominal from most online sites. We of course, quote you the cost in advance.

 

What will you wear?

Men typically wear black suits and white shirts and ties. Women wear black dresses or slacks. For evening indoor weddings we can wear more formal attire such as tuxedo for the men if requested.
